12.13.2021

Jim got the other sides of the new pantry shelves primed this morning...

Jim got the doors and drawers back in place in the old kitchen cabinets.  Then we moved the brake over to the top...

A little rearranging and this corner of the shop looks extra good!

Jim got some wood glued up for his next project - bathroom shelf units!

With the Mini tucked in its winter spot next to the treadmill, time to clean the treadmill....

Vacuuming underneath the treadmill as well as its pad...

More winter prep - Jim took the battery out of the excavator and brought it inside for the winter and then fastened the tarp over top of the machine...

As the sun goes down and is reflected on the side of the pole barn, Jim got the Bobcat forks and bucket tucked in behind the excavator for easy access during the winter...

Jim worked on planing the shelves to the right thickness this morning...

Putting all the wood through the planer, especially the pine, causes a build up of pitch on the blades so Jim has to periodically clean the machine...

More pieces in the gluing process...

The MDF is cut for both of the cabinets...

Drilling all the adjustment holes in the side pieces for the shelves...

Sanding...

Priming shelves and side pieces...

Everything is drying...

12.11.2021

I have to interrupt the blog today to say Happy 32nd Anniversary to my wonderful husband!  We've been on lots of adventures together and I'm looking forward to lots more!  He's always been so supportive, loving, and caring - I couldn't have made it this far without him, nor would I have ever wanted to.  He was so encouraging in getting my mom to move here with us and brings a smile to her face everyday.  I love you, dear!

Okay - back to the blog!  Jim worked on making more shelf pieces today for the pantry...

More shelves in the gluing process...

We moved the brake from on top of our old kitchen cabinets over to sawhorses temporarily - Jim is anxious to get things organized now that the west wall is painted.

Cutting some pieces of MDF to sit on top of the cabinets...

Cabinets in place against the wall...

Unfortunately, it's time to put the Mini to bed for the winter.  Jim got the wheels up on the dollies....

Then moved into place (no easy feat)...

Hooking up the trickle charger to the battery...

Cover on...

Coming up with a plan to make a jig that he can hopefully use to press out the bearing on the axle...

12.10.2021

Jim worked on installing the shelves this morning in the pantry room...

Steel attached...

Jim's filing the edges of the steel just to make sure it's not sharp...

Working on installing side pieces...

It looks so good!  I can't wait to start organizing - it will be soon!

Jim's new tool came in that he was hoping he could use to remove the bearing but it's pressed on so far that the tool won't go underneath.  Sigh.  He'll have to come up with a new solution.

Meanwhile, there's never a shortage of other issues to attend to.  He had to reattach the gasket on the Bobcat window...

12.9.2021

What a gorgeous start to the morning - the sun coming up over the mountain, a couple inches of fresh snow, cloudless blue sky...

Jim used the metal drill press to punch holes in the steel he will use for pantry shelf support...

The right piece is punched...

He needed to get the holes punched in the steel so he could predrill those markings on the underside of the shelf pieces before painting.  So once all that was done, time to paint!

The shop is full of drying pieces...

Then comes all the tedious clean up of the gun...

12.8.2021

In order to celebrate, Mom and I made Red Wine Brownies with Drunken Cranberries today!  Hope you got some brownies today as well!

Jim sprayed the shelf pieces today...

Pieces drying all over the shop...

Of course, using the spray gun requires lots of clean up time.  Once he got done with that, he started painting the newly-primed wall area Gravity Gray, first doing the trim work...

Continuing with trim work...

Starting with the roller...

Almost finished!

Done - looks so different and beautiful when you walk in the shop now!
