10.14.2025

It was a rainy day yesterday, so Jim was doing computer and inside work.

There were still a few spits of rain around this morning.  At my mom's this morning, a couple from Opera Saratoga came again - it's called Songs by Heart and it is geared exclusively towards Alzheimer's and dementia patients.  It's very interactive - the singer sings familiar songs to them, encourages them to sing along.  Here's the website if you are interested... https://www.operasaratoga.org/songsbyheart  Singing to my mom...

Jim wanted to do some pre-winter work on the Tiger Cub.  Spraying it off...

He brought it into the auto bay to do some greasing...

After lunch, we headed out to do some tree transplanting.  We wanted to pick out three trees - two to replace the two that died along the driveway and one more to extend the line.  Marking the trees we picked with our tape...

This is another tree that may not take - it's too close to the rock wall but we want to give it a chance...

And the third...

Starting to dig out the first...

Out...

Jim wanted to dig the hole a bit deeper...

Putting the tree in...

Filling in the hole...

Always hand shoveling...

Digging the next hole out a bit more...

Putting some water on...

There are a few trees that we tried to move from the front of the wall in the spring, but only one survived.  Jim's moving one of the dead ones out of the way...

Trying to rescue another tree that's too close to the wall...

Out...

But once we had it in the bucket, we saw the top was a bit deformed.  We decided to put it in the spot where the dead tree was, so Jim dug the hole a bit bigger...

Setting it in the hole...

Looks good there and it should be healthier than growing up on the wall...

With that one out, there was another one in the same area that Jim thought he'd try...

Lifting it out...

A little oak tree came along with the roots, so Jim carefully extracted it and set it aside...

We're calling this our Charlie Brown tree - it may not survive and it's a little deformed, but we think it has heart and are hoping it survives.

A little measuring so we can get the next tree the same distance apart and from the driveway...

Starting to dig the hole...

Starting to take out the next tree...

This is a pretty one!

Getting it set in the hole...

Making sure it's straight...

The view looking down the driveway...

And looking up the driveway - looks fabulous!

Moving another dead tree out of the way - this is where we decided to plant the baby oak...

Setting it in the ground...

Too cute.  Hopefully one day it will be mighty.
