Today was kind of an on/off rainy day - one of the few days that there was some thunderstorms throughout the day. But Jim managed to find some dry times to start working on the little shed in the woods.
However...as he was taking inventory of the wood that was loaded up by Lowe's last night, he realized that he was missing a lot of wood. He came home to compare the order with receipts and make a phone call. It was their fault but the end result was that he still had to drive the box truck back into Lowe's and pick up the rest of the materials. That took a chunk of time as well as some diesel fuel there and back. So much for how proud we were feeling last night as we just pulled up and they loaded the materials into the truck. Lesson learned - better check things over really well before you pull away!
When he got back to work, he first made the base - again, this won't be anchored permanently to the ground but he still wanted it to keep the things inside dry. Treated lumber went down first to make the frame.
Then he put a moisture barrier on top to keep the wood as dry as possible.
Then it was putting the deck on.
Jim got to try out the saw for the first time - using the truck bed as the outfeed table. That will need a little adjustment but the saw worked well for the purpose he wanted.
It was exciting to smell cut wood again and see all the tools come out from storage.
Hopefully the weather will cooperate a little more tomorrow. Jim still got a good first day in. Hmm...look at him kneeling on that newly-fixed knee!
On my way home, it was a real life Make Way for Ducklings. Look at all those little babies! Too cute to not take a picture!
