4.23.2022

Before Jim went to bed last night, he went into the bathroom and the handle on the faucet just spun around.  At first, he was afraid that it was a water issue but he took the handle off and discovered that it was broken.  So this morning, time to see if he could fix the faucet.  These faucet handles are one piece - there's no set screw for adjustment.

Time to take things apart...

He got it all apart and was able to fix it - the screw had fallen through the mechanism and he had to reattach everything.  Since he had the faucet apart, it was a good time to clean the drain too.

Let there be cold water!

In the afternoon, we headed back outside to do some more clearing...

We have gotten so much done - this whole side area looks clean.  Lots of chipping to do!

4.22.2022

Jim had more desk work do this morning.  In the shop, Jim continued working on making some flashing today - here he's using the punch to make holes for attaching...

A pile of flashing ready to go!

In the afternoon, we headed outside to do some more clearing...

Look how pretty this area looks now!

We worked up at the top of the hill as well - another after shot!

Now that Jim has the drawers in his desk, not having wheels on his chair made it a little awkward.  So he bought some nice ones online, which came in today.  He put them on and it should work much better!

4.21.2022

Jim did some computer work this morning and then chatted with Kyle when he called, so it was a later start to the morning for him.  He did get another coat on the pull-out side desk...

He did some more cleaning and taping of seams in the shop...

Putting in the caulk and smoothing it...

Pulling off the tape...

He wants to finish up some flashing around the auto bay so he did some cleaning of the brake - vacuuming all the man glitter off...

Doing some dusting on the flashing material...

Working on making flashing...

Putting the "hem" on the side...

4.20.2022

Jim started making a pencil tray for his middle desk drawer today...

Trial fit - looks awesome!

Jim spent most of the afternoon doing final tweaking on all the desk drawers, including switching out glides on the file cabinet drawer so that it opens farther.  He got all the rest of the screws in the glides put in - everything is perfect now!  A coat of polyurethane on the side pullout and the pencil tray...

This afternoon, Jim heard noises and went out to investigate - our city came to take care of the tree that had fallen!  Pretty amazing since it just happened yesterday.  We'll still have to take care of the branches that Jim dragged out of the middle of the driveway, but certainly great service!

With the little bit of time left, Jim worked on putting backer rod in more seams...

Mom and I headed into Saratoga this afternoon.  She had an appointment with the eye doctor for final tests and measurements, as well as going over all the surgery procedures.  Then we did a Target pickup.  It was very interesting - while our snow is melting some, as soon as we headed down the mountain into Saratoga, there was no snow anywhere in sight!

4.19.2022

We woke up to a winter wonderland today - almost a foot of wet, heavy snow!  Our poor trees are all bent over from the weight of the snow...

It sure was pretty; however, that kind of snow causes damage.  We lost utility power and internet for most of the day - it just came back on  within the hour.  Once again, we are so very grateful for our generator!

Jim worked in the shop, assembling all the drawers - they sure are gorgeous!

Doing some fit checks...

These two drawers are installed!

Showing us the finished middle drawer - gorgeous!

Fitting the side desk.  Jim wants to put at least one more coat of polyurethane on this piece...

Middle drawer all set...

The final drawer is now installed!  The desk really looks beautiful.  Jim still has a little tweaking to do but it's just about done!

Mid-afternoon, Jim had to get the Bobcat out to clear the driveway.  If Mom and I didn't have to go out tomorrow for an appointment, it probably could have just waited and melted except for the end of the driveway where the plow comes through.  However, once Jim got down there, he discovered a big branch from a tree across the street had fallen and blocked the road.  Someone had come through and used a chainsaw to cut it and then through the branches into the driveway.

Another view...Jim got the branches dragged out of the way - we'll have some more clean up and chipping to do down here.

4.18.2022

Mom and I headed into Saratoga this morning - did a couple grocery errands and picked up some supplies at Lowe's for Jim.

Jim got some more seams in the shop floor cleaned and filled with backer rod...

Jim got more desk drawer pieces lightly sanded and ready for polyurethane...

With the polyurethane we picked up at Lowe's, Jim was able to get the pieces sprayed...

Jim wanted to get the chipper ready for use, so he got it out of the pole barn.  Unfortunately, even though he took the battery out and stored it inside, it's dead.  Jim tried charging it with his charger but it still didn't work.  A little bit of starter fluid brought it to life, but Jim will be investigating new a new battery.

Jim got the newly-sharpened blades installed in the chipper and got the mulching blades all greased...

Moving the chipper back inside the pole barn...

With his little bit of time at the end of the day, Jim started cutting up a branch that had fallen over the winter on the west side of the house...

We are under a winter storm warning (in spring!) - the forecast is for 3-6" of snow starting late tonight!
