Jim started cutting the finger pulls in the drawer fronts for Mom's closet shelf unit...

Bringing one upstairs to try out...

All the fronts are sized and have the finger pulls cut...

Putting the bottoms of the drawers through the belt sander to get them to the right thickness...

It was a beautiful day so in the afternoon, Jim brought down the excavator so that we could work on transplanting an oak tree from our pine forest along the driveway...

We first had to figure out where we wanted to put the oak - we decided in this open space before the turn around - there are two big oaks in the woods nearby.  You can see we brought a lawn chair out so my mom could watch as Jim got ready to dig...

Once Jim had the hole dug, he had to try and get the oak out from among this tight cluster of pines...

He was able to get it out - a couple of small pines came along which we will transplant as well....

Both trees were sharing the same ball of dirt and roots - Jim brought them over to the hole...

He had to keep digging the hole bigger because the oak had some long roots...

But it's in its new home - some water part way through the filling in process to keep the roots healthy...

Final grading around the tree - looks perfect so fingers crossed that it takes.

We found a spot at the edge of the woods to put the pine so Jim started digging another hole...

Moving the tree back...

All planted...

Bringing out the other pine tree that was uprooted when removing the oak...

We decided to plant it along the edge of the woods where we transplanted other trees last year...

Digging the hole...

Thank goodness for the thumb on the excavator because there are always big rocks!

Bringing the tree over to the hole...

Looks good in its new home - much more breathing and growing room!

Mom stayed out with us the whole time we were transplanting these trees - we moved the chair a couple times and sometimes she just stood and watched.  It was nice to have her out with us!

As we were outside looking at all these gorgeous trees, we were marveling at how much these pines have grown at the bottom of these giant pines.  This picture is hard to tell the size but you can sure see how many and thick the pines are.  If you go back a few pictures to where Jim is digging the oak out, you can see these trees are probably 20' tall.

Going back to when we started digging the trench to bring electric to the property about 7 years ago, these trees were almost non-existent...

Another view...

Things sure have come a long way - it's incredible to look back at the blog and see how much work has been done to get us to this point!

High 57/Low 35 - beautiful!
