Jim helped me with a lot of computer work this morning.  Once he was able to be in the shop, he got the first glued plank out of clamps and another board prepped...

Then gluing another board onto the plank...

Jim got the Corian top for the laundry room cabinet cleaned up and a first rough sanding done...

2.18.2025

Sorry for the blog silence - it was quite the weekend around here.  Kyle and Hope got married at the Boston Public Library on Saturday, so we left for Boston Thursday after visiting with Mom.  We got to downtown Boston during rush hour (not recommend).

Our hotel was beautiful and turned out to be right behind the library, so we were able to walk to all the events...

Plus, Saratoga Water awaited us in our room, so it was a wonderful unexpected touch of home!  In fact, the caters offered Saratoga Water at all the wedding events.

The Boston Library was gorgeous, outside...

And inside...

In between events, Jim and I did a lot of walking around the area, stopping for some good food along the way...

Including what Hope's dad said was the best clam chowder ever!

The wedding was gorgeous and the library looked even more beautiful with all the flowers...

Gorgeous couple...

The new Mr. and Mrs. May!

The weather was terrible in Boston after the wedding, and looked horrible the whole way home.  We opted to stay another night at the hotel to hopefully avoid the worst of it. That was a smart decision - we had one stretch that was bad in Massachusetts, but the rest was okay and traffic lighter because of the holiday.  However, this is what awaited us when we got home!

We walked up the driveway to find an awful lot of snow and ice in front of the house too!

Jim had to plow the driveway in the snow so that we could get the car up!

The snow wasn't quite finished - we got another 3" or so overnight, so he was back at it this morning too...

It was nice to get back to normal today - I had to do some grocery shopping and visited with Mom.  Jim was able to do some work in the shop this afternoon.  Waiting for his hinges to come in the mail, but the doors are all milled and ready for the hardware...

The thick stock he is going to use for the barn door had a bow to it, so he cut it, flipped it over, and then glued it together to make it straight...

He got the other piece of Corian cut and glued so it will be ready soon for him to start building up the edges and getting it cut to size...

Jim prepped the other side of the cabinet pieces and then got a coat of primer on...

Moving over to the Corian, he scraped off the glue from the first seam, and got things ready for the next seam...

Sanding pieces of the cabinet...

Doors and top all sanded and first coat of primer on...

A close up of the cove cut that Jim put on the top of the cabinet...

Jim's old Corian adhesive was no good after multiple attempts, so he had to order new.  It came in and he cleaned the edges up and did the first glue joint.  This adhesive definitely got hard so he'll be able to continue on.

This is some of the thick stock that Jim is going to use for the laundry room barn door - he started doing some initial trimming...

The forecast was spot on today - we woke up to over a foot of snow!  The patio view...

You can see all the snow on top and around the generator...

Jim shoveled around the vents so that it could breathe if it needed to work...

Thank goodness for the snow blower!

In the shop, Jim put all the pocket screw holes in the bottom piece that will attach to the existing cabinet...

The cabinet looks beautiful!

Jim cut the holes for the hinge hardware on the doors...

12.8.2025

Yesterday went by in a blur.  We had to go to the rehab facility and pick up my mom to take her for a neurology exam.  After a quick lunch, we had to head back to the facility for her care team meeting.  We left her playing Bingo!

Today Jim was able to do some work in the shop.  He cut the header piece for the cabinet and planed it to the right thickness...

Holding the header in place...

Putting the fasteners in...

Looking great!

Working on the bottom piece - this will attach to the existing bottom cabinet in the laundry room.

We are under a winter storm warning - we're supposed to get maybe a foot of snow starting tonight through tomorrow morning.  Jim unburied the Bobcat bucket and just scraped the driveway a bit to hopefully get rid of any slippery spots that have accumulated.

We're heading out to visit with Mom before church.

Jim made the back of the cabinet today...

Doing the millworker on it...

He attaches everything together before eventually taking it apart, because it makes it easier to reassemble when it's all painted....

We had another snowy day - we got about 3" that Jim had to take care of this afternoon...

2.4.2025

Jim and I both had haircuts today around lunchtime.  After that, we split up - Jim headed to Northern Hardwoods to pick up his wood order and I had a couple errands and went to see my mom.

His new wood stash, including some thick stock to make a barn door for the laundry room!

Bringing in the wood through the snow...

New wood stacked up...

Making pocket screw holes in the other side panel...

Starting to assemble!

It's going to be beautiful and so helpful in the laundry room...

Checking out how the doors will fit...

Jim still has more pieces to make and then he'll take the cabinet apart again and start the painting process.  Fun to see it all come together!
