1.28.2016

It was back to landing work today.  Jim built a complicated block to go in between the last two joists - again, this will provide more resistance for the force of the stairs attaching to this location.

That was the last job that required the scaffolding in the stairwell so we got that taken down.  The space looks bigger and much cleaner now!

Then Jim set up the laser level to mark the location of the next landing.

Because the laser level is basically at eye level now, Jim decided to wear the cool red goggles that came with the level for protection.  They made the whole world red!

Marking the landing location on the studs...

Putting up another mounting plate so that he can attach the track.

The track is in position and Jim is fastening it to the mounting plate and studs.

Putting the track into position on the other side.  Jim's advance planning is in effect here - on the other side of the track is another steel mounting plate that he installed when we put the sheathing on this wall.  He uses special long screws to attach through all these layers - he ran out so I'll probably make a Lowe's run in the morning to get more.

Time to cut joists!

Putting the joist into place that attaches to the end wall...

Fastening it to the studs...

The end joist is next....

It was getting late at this point and I had to stop at the store, so I left and Jim continued putting up the rest of the joists.  Pictures to come tomorrow!
