1.14.2016

Jim had an eye appointment mid-morning and we had to go to Lowe's afterwards.  His rep had finally gotten some fascia board samples for him.  There are different options but none are the perfect solution - he could use the Hardi board material but it's very heavy.  This sample material is lighter but you can't do things like hang gutters off it.  Lots of time spent making decisions for things that no one ever thinks about!

By the time we got home and ate lunch, it was almost 2:00.  The winds had been howling when we were out and the temperatures were cold, so Jim said he was going to head out to the property just to work for awhile in the downstairs shop.

However, once he got out there he decided to see what he could do on the stairwell wall to give us a head start.  The first thing he had to do after he got all the snow off the tarp was to straighten out the front sill board.  It had a crown to it and extended out just a bit too far.  Jim figured out how much he needed to take off and then got it cut and straightened.

Next, he cut the bottom track pieces to size, punched them so that he can drill into the wood sills easier, and then marked where the studs will go.

This is the stud that will attach to the current wall - so Jim punched the holes in the steel where he will fasten it to the wall.

Then he started building the wall!  This wall will have a couple more studs in it but that makes it heavier for us to lift.  Tomorrow we will be able to stand the wall up and get it fastened down.  Amazing to think he's building walls in January!

After he got all of that done, he spent the last hour of the day doing adjustments to the double doors into the workshop.  He got them hung the other day but the hinges needed to be adjusted, the strike plate needed some work - but he got all that done and is really happy with the way they fit now.

Quite a lot to get accomplished on a cold, blustery half work day!
