9.10.2019

Jim called this morning to see if we could get gravel delivered.  He only wanted Kyle - his favorite driver - because he had already talked to him about this load.  It's a mixture of #1 stones and gravel dust - once it gets compacted from driving over it, it becomes very hard.  Jim requested that they deliver after lunch.

Then he got busy on his day - he painted the little wedges to be used for bug proofing behind the copper flashing on the dormer.

He got the first coat of polyurethane on the window sash...

Jim took some measurements from the upstairs cantilever window to make a temporary covering while he finishes those windows as well as measurements for the man door.  He started cutting the pieces when he got a call that the gravel was coming already.

We went down and waited for the truck to come.  Once Jim explained what he wanted, the truck took off and spread the gravel!

After the driver left, Jim took the Bobcat and flattened everything out a bit.

Then it was back to the jobs at hand!  He got the piece of plywood cut for the door and put into place.

He attached some stops to keep it in place...

Then he had to take all the door hardware and hinges off.  These aren't typical hardware sets and they were quite complicated, made more so by the fact that one screw stripped on one of the hinges and he had to use quite a few different tricks to get it out.  He probably spent close to an hour just getting all the hardware off!

This is an extremely heavy steel door - he got it off the hinges...

And set down on the prepared painting area...

Time to prep the door for painting so Jim got busy with the palm sander...

And of course some hand sanding...

Blowing all the dust off.  This actually showed some places that he wanted to re-sand so this process was repeated.

Cleaning off the garage door panels...

Then it was time to get the paint ready...

...and start painting!

First panel done and working on the other two...

All done...

Next was the carriage house man door...

Beautiful!

Of course, after all that, Jim had to spend the next hour cleaning out the paint gun.
