9.8.2018

Jim took the hissing microwave out of the kitchen this morning.  We just decided to buy one for the interim period.  The over-the-range one we have is big, the vent is underneath and it's just not made to sit on the counter.

So I headed out this morning to Target - but look how nice the driveway looks after our gravel delivery!

We are supposed to get in the low 40s tonight!  Just a couple days ago we were sweltering.  Even though we definitely aren't turning heat on yet, that spurred Jim to finish up the heating system for the apartment.  He got all the Pex tubes fastened into the apartment manifold...

The only runs that hadn't been tested were from the shutoff valve after the pump to the apartment manifold, since obviously the Pex wasn't connected yet.  And of course, the copper union gave Jim grief.  He got out all his giant wrenches and kept torquing it tighter and tighter.  He probably spent two hours getting it to stop leaking.

Then...there were all kinds of issues getting the water to circulate through the manifold into the apartment.  Jim had to jumpstart the pump and struggled to get all the air pushed out of the lines.  It was crazy to hear the baseboard heaters come to life!  He got the Nest thermostat connected online and to his iPad to be able to change settings.  And we got to feel warm air come out of the toeboard heater in the kitchen!

So this was an all-day process for Jim but he's happy that he appears to have everything working now just in case we would need it (but I told him not until November!).  Now he'll be able to focus on tweaking flow rates to make everything work perfectly.
High 63/Low 42 - fall like!
