9.16.2018 - Making concrete!

After a very physical day yesterday, Jim topped it off with probably even a more physical-taxing day because today we made concrete for our post holes!

Starting to mix...

Our first batch of concrete...

Filling up the bucket...

Pouring it in the hole!  Jim measured the depth of the hole before and after pouring to get the right amount of concrete.

Meanwhile, we started mixing up another batch...

Jim used the spud bar to flatten out the tops...

Continuing to fill up our holes...

Dumping out our next batch...

And starting the third...

Each of these filled buckets weighs probably 80 pounds - in addition to lifting all the buckets of material!

We got 9 holes filled!  By this time, it was way past lunchtime so Jim made the decision that it was too late to start another batch since we have church this evening.  Cleaning up the pumpkin.

In the afternoon, we ran string on all 4 sides and double checked all our measurements - we were spot on!

There are a couple holes that Jim had to tweak - the auger skips when it hits a stone and can throw the hole off a bit.

Great progress!  We'll get back at it tomorrow!
High 83/Low 61 - beautiful but hot for concrete work!
