9.14.2018 - Digging post holes!

Jim worked some on a couple more windows in the wood shop this morning...

Then he had to do some prep work to get ready to pick up the auger attachment for the Bobcat.  He had to bring the box truck up and clear out a few things from the back.  He had to pick it up at 2:00 so he headed out and made a stop at the insurance agent on the way.

Once he got back, he took the bucket off the Bobcat and put our trusty forks on.

Lifting up the pallet with the attachment...

The attachment is on now...

Hooking up the hydraulics...

Then putting on the giant drill bit!

Everything is on and ready to work!

Getting started on the first hole -

Check out all the dirt that comes up...

Unfortunately, there is still a lot of physical work involved.  Here Jim is using the manual post hole digger to clean out the hole and remove rocks.

Measuring the depth...

Getting started on the next hole...

Very pretty holes!

Three holes on the left side are done - now Jim is starting across the back...

Jim has to shovel all the dirt that is brought up out of the way of the Bobcat...

Getting ready to dig the corner hole on the back...

Jim had told me that this was going to be the last hole for the day (#7!).  Good decision because this one gave him so much grief!  He kept hitting rocks that would cause the auger to slip and make the hole bigger.

So he had to use all the tools at his disposal - the post hole digger...

The spud bar...

And even practically crawling in the hole to get rocks out!

But he got that one dug - whew.  A great day - more than half of the holes dug!

High 77/Low 59 - beautiful
