12.25.2017

Hope that everyone had a very blessed, safe and Merry Christmas!

It definitely was a white one around here!  The snow started in the wee hours and by the time Jim left to go to the property, it looked like this on our cars at the apartment...

Jim had plowed yesterday in advance of the storm to get some of the ice ruts out, but you would never know it from how it looked when he got to the property...

So the first thing on his agenda was plowing.  But not an easy task even to get started - that's the bucket buried under lots of snow.  Jim has to totally shovel it out in order for it to connect to the Bobcat.

The other 4Runner is totally buried in snow!

The frozen shelf remained on the carriage house but Jim said it did come off later in the day.

The snow continued for a good portion of the day - then the winds picked up and we had wind advisories out.  This was my car later on in the day...

By the time Jim got all the plowing work done, it was mid afternoon.  He spent the rest of the time working on drywall details.  He put up the last piece of drywall around the doorframe in the utility room (picture to come) and spent the rest of the time working in the bathroom.

This area required some special drywall applications because of the breaker box.  The box is inset a bit from the drywall (almost level with the studs) - it had to be that way because of the placement of the conduit coming from the outside.  The cover of the breaker box is required to be closed tightly so Jim was a bit worried about how all that would work out.  He decided to do the drywall horizontally instead of vertically so that he had more options.  He ended up putting J-channel around the box and it turned out really well - he tried the cover and it appears that it will close tightly this way.

Jim joked that Scrooge let him come home early but it was still almost 6:00 by the time he got home - not quite a relaxing Christmas Day for him!  But it's important to maintain diesel fuel in the heaters and keep everything going out there - especially with the frigid temperatures that are on their way tomorrow.  Our 30 degree high today will be about 50 degrees colder with lows of almost 20 below zero on their way - frightening.
High 31/Low 9 - at least 9" of new snow
