12.7.2015

The dense fog of yesterday persisted into the early hours this morning.  All that moisture in the air with the cold temperatures made everything frozen out at the property when Jim got there.  Don't want to put your hands on this frozen steel!

Or stand on toe boards covered with frost!

Once the sun came out and had time to dry things off, we started working on underlayment.  The temperatures have to be right for this job too - if it's too cold, the membrane won't stick.

This is a tougher job physically than the sheathing because Jim has to be constantly moving up and down the roof, working with sticky membrane, and having to come off the roof to get each piece.  Plus, as you can see from this picture when he started working on the valley area, he has to remove toe boards because they are in the area where he's putting the underlayment, but then there's no where to stand on this steep roof!

Making progress on the membrane...

Jim is mountain climbing his way up the valley rafter trying to install the membrane.  We again put the water and ice protection membrane down on all the edges and put the titanium underlayment on top.

Not many pictures because I was inside cutting all the pieces - but this side is done!  Jim even got all the caps put in the titanium underlayment.

After a tiring day in the cold, we get home to the apartment to find that the heat is off.  Thankfully it must have just happened - there was still enough hot water for showers but the apartment was chilling off quickly.  We called the landlord but they were already on it - apparently the distributor didn't check and they ran out of fuel oil but got the tanks filled up.  The apartment warmed up again so that was a relief!
