Beam pocket - level

Ordered steel 2-1/2 weeks on site

Jim finished shoring up the outside, although he will make many passes around before the concrete trucks roll up to make sure he didn't miss anything!  This is the back corner where the buttress wall connects.

Then Jim moved into shoring up on the inside.  Here he's working on the inside of the corner by the buttress wall.  Because every piece of shoring is custom-designed to the specific location based on what's needed, it's not as simple as it would seem to just move up these pieces from the bottom to the top.  For example, the flanges in the foam are in different spots, so that requires Jim to get down, use his tools to punch holes in different places.  There is so much work in this shoring only to have it be temporary and be removed soon - but as long as it does the job of holding back the concrete, everything is good!

In between everything, Jim also spent time on the phone with the steelyard finalizing our order of all of the big steel - the I beams as well as all the steel decking and multitude of other parts.  This is going to take a lot of coordination to get all of that on site.  At lunch time, I could just see Jim's wheels spinning.  I told him I didn't think he ever stopped thinking about the project.  He said, right now, I can't.  There's not enough time and way too much to just project manage, let alone build.  Whew.

After lunch, I worked on doing some cleaning, putting the plastic out for the next brick load, and then doing some more bottom membrane work on the side wall.

Jim started working on the beam pockets.  This required not only taking apart and moving up all the bulkheads, but also making sure that location of all the beam pockets was level all the way around.  Which meant getting out the laser level again and taking all kinds of measurements to make sure.  This is again on the buttress wall area.

Then he continued around working on all of the beam areas....this is the one between the man door and the garage door.

And starting work on the opposite side on the back wall.  By the end of the day, Jim got all of the bulkhead beam pockets done.  There's still more work to do on them, of course, but the main, more difficult parts are done.

The bricks never showed up, which is fine.  I'm sure they'll show up tomorrow and we'll be all ready for them.
