1.24.2021

Well...the refrigerator freezer started making an even worse noise yesterday even though it was working at the moment.  Jim had ordered a new fan but it's not expected to arrive until probably Thursday.  So he decided to investigate once again.  Thanks to the fact that he marked the location of the attachment clips, this was an easier job to take it apart.  Thankfully, we have the new freezer in the metal shop so I took all the food down there.

Starting to investigate again...

The culprit - the fan rotor that attached to the motor spindle was in pieces!

We kept the original motor so Jim got that out to use - he was never convinced that the motor was the issue.  Then he glued the fan on and let it dry until late afternoon.

Once it was all dry Jim brought it back upstairs and gave it some trial spins...

Then it was time to put it all back together again.  He's getting really speedy at this now!

Putting everything back together!  It's SO quiet and the temperature is going down so we are cautiously optimistic that things are working and will stay that way for awhile!  At least we'll have a new fan and motor in stock now.

Besides doing refrigerator repair work, Jim worked in the wood shop a bit - here he's drilling pocket screw holes in the base panel of the drawer cabinet...

Then glued the maple front to the bottom...

He continued working on the wood shop bathroom wall.  The metal shop is being put to good use - he cut the horizontal studs and made the attachment tabs and then started fastening them...

He plans on having two access doors - one at the bottom so he has access to the plumbing in this area...

And another at the top to access that area if need be...

Jim's car lift has been shipped (yay!!!) so he needs to make sure that he's ready to take delivery whenever that comes.  It's been near 0 overnight and only in the teens during the day for the past couple days.  Jim went out to start the Bobcat and it wouldn't start.  Jim knows the battery needs replaced at some point but it's been working great.  He brought his engine block heater out to the pole barn and let it warm up for about 45 minutes - then it started right away.  He let it run for awhile and will just go out and start it every day or so just to keep it healthy in the cold.

Jim spent the end of the day in the metal shop prepping for starting to weld some joists onto the bottom of his steel table.

Today's National Peanut Butter Day - hope everyone had some to celebrate - we did!
