9.1.2017 - First tile!

Jim worked outside again this morning - took down the scaffolding that was at the side of the house and built up another section in the back corner.  He got some pieces going up under the eave.  He made the fascia and got it primed and painted.

Our new task for the day was putting down our first tile in the woodshop bathroom!  Since Jim got it marked and cleaned yesterday, we were able to get the Thinset ready.  Since we don't have a huge area marked and to see how everything went laying the tile, Jim only wanted to mix up half a batch.

Mixing up the Thinset...

This was a useful tool - Jim is able to attach the mixer to his hole saw.  It's like a construction version of a KitchenAid mixer!

Of course, the worst part of working with any of this type product is the clean up but it's so nice to have our lawn hydrant working!

Putting down the first row of Thinset and troweling it...

Starting to place the tiles...

Working on the next row...

All done - looks amazing!  I can't wait to walk on it - Jim said I have to wait until tomorrow.

We still had some Thinset left over, which Jim had counted on.  We headed up to the laundry room where Jim first put Thinset over the joints and then laid nylon mesh tape on top.  Then more Thinset on top of that.  This just helps to join the edges and keep everything solid to prevent any tile breakage.

Continuing on...

Laundry is done and ready for tile!

There was still a little left over so we did the shower area of the bathroom...

After more cleanup, it was time for drywall.  This morning, Jim had cut and placed the next ceiling piece in the bathroom so now it was time to attach it.

Finishing the screws...

It was a tight fit for this next piece - Jim had to basically just use one arm of the lift because that's all that would fit in this area.  But we got it up into place and Jim is fastening...

This is officially the smallest piece of ceiling drywall in the apartment!

Next, we got the first piece of wall done.  We had to both hold it up until Jim could get the first screws in.  Here it's all in place and he is cutting out the window...

That piece is done!

Time for the next one...

Cutting the rest of the window out...

Almost there!

One more piece and now it's done!

Whew - a lot accomplished on a lot of different fronts!
