10.21.2015 - Front Apartment Wall Up!

It was another drizzly early morning so Jim used the time to do a little more organizing in the shop on the ground floor.  He got the last cabinet off the truck and moved things around in the shop - it's really taking shape and looking good!

Then it was time to build some walls!  Doing some cutting of stud pieces...

The pieces for the double stud are up on the deck...

...and then assembled!

Attaching them to the track....

Once the double stud was in place, we flipped the wall over so that Jim could fasten the other side for more stability when we stand the wall up.

Cutting off the corner of the wall so that it will fit in next to the corner of the valley rafter.

Then we flipped the wall back over.  Jim wanted to put one more double stud in - this is where the kitchen window will go so he'll be able to start working on making the framing for that.

Fitting in the stud...

Attaching blocks to the deck to help hold the wall in place once we stand it up.

The wall is up and in place - and look how amazing the corner came out!  Couldn't be any more perfect than that!

The first wall section is standing!

Looking good from down below too.

Time to get busy making the track pieces for the next wall section.  Jim was a little worried about how the two walls might fit together when they are done - each wall section has a stud that will meet in the middle to form a double stud where the other ridge beam will sit.

Starting to layout the wall on the deck.  There is so much steel on the deck now that it's really hard to get things maneuvered and have enough space to work!

Assembling the double stud...

After Jim got the stud in place, we flipped the wall over and he started fastening this side together.

We flipped the wall back over and Jim put the blocks in.

We got the wall up and in place but in order for Jim to make the connection at the top, he had to tear down the scaffolding, move it and rebuild it so that he could reach.  Meanwhile, we clamped the wall and I held it steady, just in case.

Much to Jim's delight, the connection came together perfectly!  The studs are perfect all the way down and the wall looks amazing.

We just made it before the sun went totally down - it really gets dark quickly.  The front is really starting to take shape now.

Looks pretty amazing from down below too!

So we are thrilled with today's progress - especially since the forecast was for spotty showers.  We ran and got some plastic to cover up all our tools on the deck at one point when a few sprinkles came down but they only lasted a couple of minutes.
