10.13.2023

Hopefully everyone only had good things happen today on Friday the 13th!  We started the day with Cranberry Coffee Cake with Almond Crunch - the last of the ten King Arthur versions of their recipe of the year.  We all have our different flavors, but they're all yummy and we've made plenty of them multiple times - the freezer is well stocked!

Jim got all his tools and equipment out after his computer work, and cut the excess from the back beam at the corner.  After lunch, he moved the toe board to the side, and started working on putting the pegs in the other hip rafter connection...

Drilling...

Pegs are in and cutting off the excess...

You can see the beam cut off in this picture; to finish off this area, Jim put the bevel in the rest of the hip rafter...

The beveled rafter looks great - time to work on putting pegs in the half rafters...

It definitely helped having the hole predrilled in the half rafter, but Jim had to continue that hole through the hip rafter...

Once that rafter was all pegged, he moved on to the next one...

Bottom joint pegged and cutting off excess...

Working on the top peg through the hip rafter...

Final pavilion work for the day - removing the backing board...

Then cutting off the excess peg...

So now, the rafter work is done on the front and side - and the back is about done too, so just one more side!

After Jim got all the tools and equipment tucked away for the night, he loaded up 3 bags of sawdust for his sawdust buddy to pick up in the morning.  He hasn't been making too much sawdust this summer, so the guy was happy to get some.
