10.1.2023

Another month in the books - I guess time goes by so quickly because we are busy and happy!  But it sure does go by fast.

Jim got everything ready so that he could start work right after lunch.  The next step on the pavilion is to put up the top purlin that goes across the top of the rafters.  So measuring and marking...

And more measuring...

Then starting to cut the purlin to size...

Carving the ends...

Check out the crazy cut - this will intersect with the end rafters...

Now to carve the tops of the rafters...

Before notching the middle rafter, he needed to peg the joint, so drilling...

Peg in and cutting off the excess...

Carving the other end rafter...

Bringing up the purlin...

Wow!  Looks amazing!

Another view just because it looks so good!

The next step is going to be the most complicated - the hip rafters.  Jim's plans show all the cuts; however, he has some more computer work to do before proceeding too far.

Doing the end cut...

At this point, Jim stopped and put all his tools and equipment away.  He wanted to do a little grass cutting before calling it a day.

Such a gorgeous fall day - the sky was so blue and the leaves are showing their fall colors!

High 77.7/Low 49.7 - beautiful!
