4.9.2018 - Texturing ceilings!

Jim worked in the control room this morning figuring out where he wanted the acid neutralizer to go that would work the best.  He then made a backboard board and attached it to the wall before mounting the neutralizer.  Next will be connecting it all up!

Next he went up to the apartment and finished sanding the rest of the wall areas.  The bathroom is now all sanded and just ready for cleanup.

But our main focus this afternoon was on ceilings - time to plaster and texture them!  We wanted to start in the laundry room to figure out the process.  Jim had mixed a bucket of plaster to the right consistency and then got out all the different needed tools, including this big bucket.

Jim was smart (isn't he always?) - we used an old piece of drywall as our practice piece.  So he first rolled it on to see the consistency and how thick we would want it.

A little practice stomping...

Then Jim has to finish all the edges - this part takes awhile to make sure he gets a nice edge plus he has to careful to smooth all the excess plaster on the wall surface.

While that was setting up, we moved out into the entryway.

Jim did the stomping around the corners to make sure that there was enough plaster on the edges - I got to try my hand at stomping too.

Doing the edge work.  You might notice a few brown spots on the ceiling - the stomping brush had some weird liquid that kept coming out of it.  This area all has to be primed and painted so it doesn't matter but it was a bit distracting as we were working!

We did the ceiling in the stairwell too...

Stomping...

And edging...

The next step is to lay down the pattern.  You have to do that when the plaster is at the right stage - Jim tested his practice board to see how it was drying.

We even did the very top of the closet ceiling!

Next area we did was the master bedroom sitting area...

I can't wait to see what all these areas look like tomorrow after they've dried!  Huge day to get this project started!
