5.18.2017 - Water into the building!

While we had some exciting progress at the house today, our hearts and minds were on Kyle while he underwent back surgery today in NYC.  He had a horribly herniated disc that wouldn't respond to any treatments so this was the last resort.  But the good news is that the surgery went very well - the doctor said it was textbook.  In fact, he's already home!  Thanks for all your prayers - we appreciate it and hope that he takes it easy and has a smooth recovery!

Jim worked in the morning on the control manifold downstairs - he moved it to a little different position.

He then got the control box all wired up.

Jim also worked on the electricity for the pump inside the well.  He took apart the old temporary wiring and plug and then temporarily connected the new wire so that we could pressurize the system and test it.

Jim was waiting on more parts he had ordered and the UPS man brought them this morning so I was able to take them out after lunch.  He then was able to get the connector attached...

Jim had to get the heat gun out again and heat up the water line in a couple of different places to make a nice bend into the manifold.

Pushing the line onto the barb connector...

To get ready to pressurize the system, Jim got an old hose and connected it.

Then he wired the manifold control box into the breaker box.

The first water coming into the carriage house!

We went back outside - no leaks outside at all!  So then Jim started wiring up the pump more permanently.  He connected a piece of conduit to the outside...

and then ran the wire through the conduit.

Connecting the wire in the well to the new wire...

...and then refastening the safety line for the pump.

Putting the cap back in place and that job is done!

Jim wanted to keep the water on and see if there were any leaks, so he decided to unearth our floor drain.  This is one of those things that Jim made provisions for a long time ago.  He started carefully chipping the concrete...

Finally he exposed the top of the drain, which we had covered in duct tape before the concrete was poured.

Look how pretty it is!

Then Jim was able to run the hose down the drain.  So we officially have water into the building now!

At the end of the day, Jim got some gravel and put it around the base of the lawn hydrant.  We were supposed to get some rain this evening so Jim wanted to make sure the gravel was down and this system was in good shape.

So many blessings today - we are so grateful for Kyle's good surgery results!
