9.22.2016

Today is the first day of autumn, leaves are just beginning to turn, so thoughts of cold weather can't be far from our minds.  However, I went back to see when we first started work on the brick, which was the beginning of the outside façade work.  Jim laid the first brick on June 20th (the day after the Cavs championship win and just a couple days before we left for NYC for Kyle & Julia's wedding!).  That's incredible progress for the summer - got the shingles on the roof, brick done and working on siding.  I read a long-range forecast that the fall weather for this area is supposed to be warmer and drier than usual - fingers crossed!

The grading work that Jim did last night looks really good - it will be ready for grass seed before long!

Jim came up with a new flashing design for the inside corners - it's really nice and encases the trim pieces totally.

Jim loves being able to use his table saw again - although you'd never know it from his expression!  We were joking about taking so many pictures!  But he was making some samples to try as freeze board options to transition from the siding to the soffit.  He came up with one he's very happy with.

Jim worked on more siding on the west wall - if you look behind the scaffolding, you can see that he's almost up to the ridge of the auto bay roof!  That will make for a good transition to the front side of this wall.

He also got started on the dormer wall section.  This wall isn't a huge area but will involve so very many cuts.  The good part is that now Jim can cut the pieces and while they are being primed and painted, move on to siding other areas.

Using the saw to rip the small pieces of trim board to use as the spacers behind the starter plank for the front wall.

Attaching the spacers...

Then the starter plank.

The sun was pretty hot this afternoon, so Jim moved around to the stairwell corner to install more shingles.

First shingle on the front side!

Time for another pallet of shingles.  Jim misses his forks on the Bobcat, so until we get new ones we have to unload manually from the pallet to the bucket.

Then from the bucket to the pallet inside the shop.  I worked on unwrapping and separating the shingles and got another 150 or so shingles painted this afternoon.

We had more visitors today - the neighbor who stopped by a couple weeks ago brought his wife to see the building!  We had never met her before so it was nice.  We're always happy to give tours!

End-of-the-day...front is really taking shape!

As I left, Jim was doing a little grading...
