Jim got busy this morning working on the side wall - and got quite a bit done before I got out.  You can see he has to work off a ladder on the roof - he does have it blocked on the scaffolding platform so it won't slip.

The next set of angle pieces going up the side wall.  I got these primed and painted so they'll be ready when Jim is ready for them.

Right before lunch, we got a surprise visit from one of our neighbors.  He drove his ATV up looking for his dogs.  He had visited a few times before and was surprised at how much progress we had made since his last visit.  Jim showed him around and he had nothing but nice things to say - always a nice boost!

After a late lunch, more good progress - Jim put a plank on the remaining roof jack to work from.

Then he had to put a plank from the roof jack to the scaffolding.

Now comes the really difficult part - the part of the shingle/roof work that has been in the back of Jim's mind since we started.  Here's the issue - in order to put up the siding shingles, Jim needs the scaffolding that is currently still on the roof.  But the shingles have to go over the step flashing that connects the auto bay roof to the house.  The step flashing has to be put on when you do the roof shingles - which can't be done because there's scaffolding there.  Therein lies the huge dilemma.

But Jim put a plan in motion today - he cut a sliver of roof shingle to use as a simulated shingle for proper thickness and placement.  He over-bent some step flashing.

Using the guide, putting up the first piece of step flashing.  This is the easy piece - it's the flat area before the scaffolding legs.

A birds-eye view of the step flashing - you can see how the stand for the scaffolding is totally in the way of doing much of anything!

Figuring out placement - while lying on the roof.

Putting the next piece up...

End-of-the-day picture - Jim used up all the step flashing that he had made.  He's feeling hopeful that this is a good solution to the problem and will allow him to continue shingle work.  Lots more challenges to come but a great start!

The forecast called for a couple spotty showers in the afternoon - although they never materialized.  I moved one pair of sawhorses into the shop and painted a batch of shingles.  I almost have the rest of the second pallet of shingles opened and separated.

Jim will also work out of the apartment window while he is working on the side wall.  So I took a bunch of shingles up into the apartment to be able to hand out to him.

Doing a little more grading at the end of the day...
