9.21.2016

Jim got lots of pieces cut this morning to use on the dormer roof area.  I primed them and later on painted them gray.

Jim figured out how he wanted to do the shingles underneath the window and got that done on the west wall.  It's impossible to get good pictures from the ground - I'll have Jim take a picture from outside tomorrow.

However, Jim wanted to get started on the shingles on the front.  By having multiple areas to work, while paint is drying on various pieces he can work in other locations.  He spent quite awhile this morning transferring the laser level lines that we made yesterday around back.  All the shingles have to line up all the way around the structure!  Then he did markings for the shingle installation in the front.

Cutting the first starter plank...after this first piece, Jim carried the shear down to the woodworking shop so that it was more easily accessible.

Installing the starter plank...

All the starter planks are installed.

Caulking in preparation for the first shingle.

First front shingle installed!

Making good progress...

Doing some touch-up painting at the end of the day.

End-of-the-day picture - a great start on the front siding.  Really exciting to see shingles on the front.

I got another batch of shingle painting done this afternoon - we're about ready to open up another pallet of shingles!

Jim did some more grading at the end of the day - we want to get a little grass seed put down soon.
