11.17.2015

It was another pretty day - not as warm as yesterday, but the sun was out so no complaints.

Jim worked first on putting up blocking on the other side of the building.  He also mounted the laser level so we could work on ceiling joists later.

Then it was back to work on sheathing our wall - strapping was next.

The first corner piece Jim made, I was able to hand to him out the window.  While these look like tiny pieces from inside, they are actually big pieces.

This next piece was really complicated because of multiple angles.

Jim put some pieces of sheathing out the window to the scaffolding as kind of a platform that we could use to hand things in/out.  He also used it to hold the next piece of sheathing until he could get outside.

From the scaffolding, he picked the piece up and had to lift it onto the roof.

Then he had to push it up the roof and then get it into place.

Whew...all in place and he's working on all the fastening.  This was a tough piece because of having to work off the toe boards.  It's really difficult to get the right leverage and there were a lot of screws in this piece.

More strapping is next.  You can see how little this final piece looks like it would be from inside...

But in reality, it's pretty big!  However, he was able to take it up the ladder and maneuver it into place that way.

All done!!  It's really starting to feel like inside when you are standing here.  I'm already thinking about paint colors...

Then we started working on placement of the ceiling joists on the other side.  Jim's using the laser level to mark the right spot.

Then it's time to make the first ceiling joist.

Before we installed the joist, Jim finished up the blocking on the end rafter.

Putting the ceiling joist into place...

Jim stayed after dark and got the next ceiling joist cut - it's the one that has to have all the flanges cut off so that it can attach to the rafter.  We'll get that up tomorrow.
