9.17.2015

This was another early morning - the contractor was supposed to be at the site at 8:00 to cut the concrete.  Jim wanted to be there with enough time to mark the lines where he wanted it cut so he was up and out even earlier.

But he arrived to gorgeous concrete!  It turned out that the contractor was delayed a little but that's okay - Jim had time to get organized.

Here you can see some lines have been cut and Jim is marking where he wants the line to go near the Pex outfeed area.

Using the power saw to cut the lines....

After all the normal cuts were made, it was time for the deep cuts around the auto lift - Jim wanted 4" deep cuts.  In order to do that, he had to get his hand saw out.  They kick up so much dust that you need to have water on to help keep that down and keep the blade healthy.

Clean up time!  Jim did a little bit after he left but I came down and worked for awhile in the afternoon hosing and sweeping it out.  It looks really good!

Then it was back to sheathing.  We were supposed to get more strapping today but it won't be in until tomorrow.  Jim was able to use a heavier-gauge piece of strapping that we had so that he was able to get a piece of sheathing up.  It was a tough piece to get up because the scaffolding was kind of in the way.  But he was able to do it and even cut the window from outside.  The remainder of the first course already had strapping up so we could continue on down the row.  Here is Jim putting the next piece out between the studs...

...and setting it into place.

Starting to fasten it down.

Then the last piece on the first course - of course, this piece required Jim to work on a ladder along with the scaffolding.

But he managed to get it into place.

Screwing the last piece down.

Next, we decided to put up house wrap on the side of the building.  This will eventually be an inside wall but for now this sheathing has been exposed to the elements the longest so we wanted to protect it.  Naturally a breeze decided to kick up.

Looks good - but no door for the moment!

Cutting open the door...

This is the last piece of exposed steel that had Jim's name on it.  I was a little sad to cover it up when I taped down the house wrap!

Besides just doing the house wrap, Jim had to work on attaching the bottom row of screws on this area.  This was one of the areas that Jim wanted to wait on until he found better screws that would work with the track.  Now that we have the wingless screws, he went back and did all the fastening.  One area in particular had curled a little because of exposure so Jim had a bit of a hard time getting it back in shape.  But he eventually did and this side of the house looks really good now.

So another good day and we are still feeling so good about our new concrete floor.  We kept going down and looking at it today!  We had planned to go out and grab some celebratory nachos, but we were both beat and just wanted to come home and stay home!

The mornings have started out chilly lately but warm up quickly - it was a warm one today!
