9.10.2015

In anticipation of doing concrete, Jim spent a little time this morning removing the concrete forms from around the auto lift area.  This contractor is going to pour it all at once and then make deep cuts around this area to make sure it doesn't crack with the weight of the lift.

However, Jim had a good conversation with the contractor this morning and we have moved the date of the pour back until next Wednesday.  Although tomorrow's weather looks good, there was to be rain around this afternoon and evening.  Since the upper levels are open to the elements, water finds its way and drips down onto the lower level.  If it rained tonight, it would still be dripping at 6:30 tomorrow morning when the truck was scheduled and would make the concrete surface look like the surface of the moon - definitely not a look we are going for.

Then Jim got back to work on the rafters.  He continued working on the new design of the rafters for this side wall.  Here he's testing the design out - it's a go!

Time for rafter fabricating...

Using the grinder...

So along with the key template, Jim got 4 complete rafters built for the side wall today.  That's exciting - when we're ready to install them, everything will be ready to go!

He went back to work on making the rest of the clip angles to attach to the wall also.

Some of these angles had to be modified for the side wall...

While Jim was doing all the fabricating today, I did some housekeeping - even though it probably only rained for 30 minutes yesterday afternoon, it came down pretty hard and was enough to create big puddles inside the shop.  So I did some more bailing of water.  Then I took apart the concrete forms and got all the various wood pieces tucked back away in their various locations.

The promised rain came about 4:00 - it was light but enough to make an end to the day.  Canceling the concrete pour tomorrow turned out to be a good decision.  After we packed up, Jim went to Lowe's for a supply run.

A bit of good news awaited at home - his driver came back repaired (hopefully!).  We were getting kind of frustrated with the customer service - I have called multiple times to get a status on the repair and was told that they had inventory shut down, it wasn't in the computer, call again, etc.  But today it was sent back - and they repaired it free of charge!  Jim told them when he sent it back that he dropped it so that was pretty remarkable - we didn't even have to pay for shipping!  Jim is anxious to get out tomorrow and try it out.
