8.15.2014

There were a few sprinkles around this morning - just enough to get the foam and footers too wet to apply the waterproofing membrane - my job for the day.  So I stayed home and worked on fire school work while Jim headed out.

He worked on steel this morning - got most of it done in this course.

It is a Holy Day so he had to stop and get cleaned up enough and we went to church at noon and then went back to the land and had lunch.

Then this afternoon, Jim worked on building up the foam!

Here he's making one of the complicated pass through forms for the concrete to flow from one section to another in our buttress wall.

Just look how much he got done by the end of the day - looks incredible!  You can see the staggered effect of the forms on the front wall - that's where the brick will go.

Speaking of brick, Jim has put a lot of effort into still trying to get the brick we wanted.  Just when we thought we had found that perfect brick, our rep told us it was all gone - someone had bought that lot.  In a way I was glad, because it was a 3" deep brick - smaller than the typical 3-5/8".  Jim would have made it work but it probably would have been a lot more work.  Our rep said there was one more possibility - he ordered another sample and he's supposed to drive it up to us early next week.  Meanwhile, we went back to our Black Diamond - probably one of the first samples we had gotten from another rep - this brick is actually from the brick manufacturer we used in Ohio on our other home.  Jim asked for a quote and it came in much cheaper than the other guy's quote - so that looks like it may be the winner.  Either way, we'll be making a decision in the next few days, which will feel really good.  This issue has been hanging over our heads for quite awhile.

The birds-eye view at the end of the day - amazing!
