Jim worked on the attic access door for the master bedroom today - had a few unexpected challenges along the way.  His first step was to mark the placement of the hinges...

Then he used his router and template to inset the hinge location...

Before he continued with more millwork, he wanted to try it out in the space.  So he took off the bedroom door, brought in the ladder, took the temporary foam door off and put it in place.

Then...uh oh...the way Jim wanted the door to swing wouldn't work because one of the roof rafters was in the way.

He figured out if he flipped the door upside down and had it swing the opposite way than was intended, the door was only about 1/4" from being able to pass by the rafter.  So he brought up a tool and slightly bent the flange of the rafter...

Yay - success!

Doing the millwork to put the slot for the door seal...

One side done...

Once the millwork was all done, Jim sanded the door...

Testing out the door seal...

Putting on a coat of primer...

Jim was anxious to finish up the dormer insulation - he glued plastic on the roof portion and then stuffed loose insulation in the space...

Insulation is all done!
