Jim worked this morning building the spindle frame for the staircase.  When completed, this will have all the spindles attached to it by welds so it will be incredibly strong yet it will be able to be removed with just 4 screws. 
 

However, when he fit it into the stairwell, the bottom member was 1/16" off - enough that it wouldn't fit.  So Jim had to cut off that connection.  Then he wanted to spot weld it in place so it would fit perfectly.  That required bringing the welder out into the stairwell and covering up all the wood areas with a wet towel to make sure there were no issues from the sparks.


Then he was able to take it back into the woodshop and weld it permanently.  Now it's a perfect fit and looks great!


Later in the afternoon, Jim repainted the hallway with the flat paint...

Then he started the trim work in the last room in the apartment to be painted - the living room!  This is Escape Gray.
