It was another day of trying to find a donation center that would take our stuff - I went to two places before I finally got Habitat of Humanity to take most of the stuff.  

The kids' old Little Tykes football toy box was broken, so it definitely needed to go.  Jim cut it up so that we could put it in the recycling bin... 

After lunch, back out to the shed.  Cutting the next piece for above the garage door...

Pre-drilling...

Sliding the piece in between the J-channels...

Unfortunately, this was not an easy task because the left side had to fit over the right side edge and that was almost impossible.  Jim used the crimping tool to widen the J-channels...

Finally success and and then fastening...

Making the flashing for the left side of the overhang...

The shingles were so tight against the sheathing that the flashing wouldn't slide underneath, so the handy sawzall came to the rescue...

Then the flashing fit underneath...

Stapling in place.  While he was up here, he took all kinds of measurements for the next piece...

Starting to transfer the measurements onto the siding...

Jim used a combination of the shear and the hand shears to make the cuts...

Putting it up for a trial fit...

Jim still needs to cut the side, but otherwise it's a good fit.  He put one screw in to hold it in place; he'll finish it up tomorrow.

I had a haircut this morning, so Jim and I loaded up all the things we had to donate to Salvation Army in my car before I left.  The donation center is north of us and probably close to a half hour away.  I get there only to see this... sigh.  I'll try again early tomorrow before seeing my mom.

Jim met with our insurance agent this morning to go over a few things with him.

After lunch, we headed outside to work on the shed.  Jim did a little tweaking of the first upper siding piece and got it up in place...

This next piece will be crazy to cut and try to fit in between all the flashing pieces.  Doing lots of measuring...

It took quite a few trials to get a fit that Jim was happy with.  Then, pre-drilling...

He had to take the side J-channel off to get the piece into place, then had to slide it back on...

Big accomplishment to get this crazy piece up into place - and it looks great!

When Jim first went up to the shed site, there was a little fawn near the excavator.  Jim was able to get close and it never moved...

It looked back over at him, but didn't appear to be afraid at all...

Once I got up to the site, the fawn was still hanging out near the edge of the wood.  We were still able to get close and it didn't move.  Not sure where the mom was, but it sure was cute.

Jim continues to spend his mornings moving boxes of stored stuff and going through things.  The job seems never ending but we're making good progress!

Jim was back out at the shed in the afternoon, cutting the trim work around the overhang...

Then Jim had to figure out how to attach the Z-channel for the upper siding pieces...

He cut it to size and then fastened in place...

Jim is able to use the cut-off pieces from the back for the front - marking...

Jim is going to do a little tweaking tomorrow and then get this piece attached.

Yesterday, Jim did some experiments on how he wants to do the flashing and siding around the overhang.  It's important to make sure that everything is covered the right way so that no water gets behind the siding.  Cutting a trial piece...

At this point, we had to clean up and went to see Mom and go to church.

Today, Jim came up with a new plan.  He first wanted to make a practice piece.  He also configured his shear differently so that he can use it to cut the ribbed siding and save all that handwork.  

It worked perfectly!  The siding went behind the step flashing to make sure water flowed over the top...

Now to make it for real!  We put tape up to help prevent any scratches from the shear.  First cut...

I marked the vertical cutting line...

Then Jim started the next cuts...

The piece is all cut - time to see if it fits!

So that means time to take it down again and mark the screw positions...

We had to dodge raindrops several times but we got the first piece figured out and up in place, so a great day!
